The New Lexicon offers music managers and leaders a sustained framework for deepening the practical, ethical, and intellectual dimensions of their work. Over several months, participants can move beyond the compressed exchange of a conference or training session and develop questions through presentation, response, revision, and public articulation.
The programme enables participants to:
– clarify concepts and philosophical commitments implicit in organisational and leadership decisions;
– advance policies, programmes, strategies, experiments, and research through substantive critical feedback;
– develop more precise vocabularies for communicating purpose, value, responsibility, and change;
– test practical and theoretical propositions within an international research community;
– encounter institutional forms, management approaches, and conceptual traditions beyond their usual references;
– situate practice within wider artistic, historical, economic, technological, ethical, and political debates;
– establish intellectual relationships and formulate new professional, organisational, and research trajectories.
This contextualisation does not displace the concrete demands of management. It helps practitioners understand how everyday decisions participate in, resist, or transform the conditions around them.
The residency may generate revised organisational models, policies, research questions, presentation formats, and professional relationships. It may support future collaborations, publications, lectures, institutional experiments, and projects extending beyond the programme. Its value lies not in delivering a universal formula for effective leadership, but in enabling participants to formulate stronger questions, make more deliberate decisions, and communicate the significance and consequences of their practices with greater precision.
